Cantal

AS PLAYGROUND

Cantal: a mountain, a volcano. The Plomb du Cantal culminates at 1855 m. Formerly called Haute Auvergne because of its altitude and its slopes, the Cantal massif is actually a gigantic eroded volcanic edifice which ceased to function 3 million years ago. “It is an evergreen region, the land of red cows (Salers), puys, planèzes (basaltic plateaus) and burons (stone buildings located at altitude where Cantal was made). It is certainly one of the most beautiful landscapes in France. The impression of an immense landscape devoid of any human presence, a space of freedom where the animal is king, whether it is the Salers or the wild fauna.

Laveissière

MOUNTAIN VILLAGE

A mountain village of 600 inhabitants (Les Vallagnons), easily accessible, at an altitude of 940 m and a few minutes from the Lioran ski resort (www.lelioran.com) and several Nordic areas. At the beginning of the 20th century, a few privileged people came to indulge in the joys of skiing under the leadership of the “Laveissière guide school” while a local craftsman made ash skis. Today, swimming pool, tennis and lake in front of the establishment give a pleasant setting to this high valley of the Alagnon, part of the Regional Natural Park of the Volcanoes of Auvergne.
